Justin Thomas is having an uncharacteristic ‘down year’ by his standards. He currently sits 41st on the PGA Tour money list with just $3.029 million in earnings this season.
Justin finished 9th on the money list last year, 5th the year prior, and 1st the year before that. So only taking in $3.029 million is quite the dip for JT’s incredibly high standards.
Nothing has been more indicative of Justin Thomas‘ slump than when he shot a +11 (81) in Round 2 of the U.S. Open in Los Angeles, an event that he had incredibly high hopes for.
JT followed up his U.s. Open woes by going low last week at The Travelers Championship in Connecticut where he finished t9th and took home $525K for his efforts. Justin Thomas credits his wife, and a timely motivational message she sent him, for helping turn his game around.

In the press conference above, Justin told reporters:
“All the credit to, honestly, my wife Wednesday night last week sent me a text that I woke up to Thursday that just kind of, it resonated to me and it really hit home better than anything I’ve heard.”
“Just basically said, ‘Remember why you love this game and why you play this game and why you’re out there, just enjoy that and kind of take it in.’ It hit home for me.”
“So last week, any kind of challenge I faced, anything good that happened, anything bad that happened, I just kind of remembered this is why I play professional golf and that’s, it’s why I’m doing this.”
Even if he’s paraphrasing he’s still playing the game right and I’m not talking about the game of golf. Happy wife, happy life. Giving her credit where credit is due is the right thing to do and in the game of golf where spouses often take a backseat to their celebrity husbands, giving her that very public shout out probably meant a lot.
For what it’s worth, Justin Thomas came out and birdied his very first hole at the Rocket Mortgage Classic this week in Detroit, Michigan.
