Kansas and Arkansas came into the year with wildly different expectations. Kansas was just hoping to win a few more games than normal after not having more than three wins since 2009, the longest such streak in FBS. Arkansas was hoping to be a fringe playoff contender.
But, the two teams ended up both going 6-6, a delight for Jayhawk fans and a lost season for their Razorback counterparts. This matched them up against each other in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl in Birmingham.
And, for the longest time on Wednesday evening, it looked like Arkansas would get to end their season on a dominant note. They led 31-7 in the 2nd quarter and 38-13 in the third quarter. Kansas got it to 38-23, but with just over a minute left, the Razorbacks led by that score, the game surely in hand. The Jayhawks got one back to make it 38-30, but, they still needed a miracle to extend the football game.
But, this is college football, and wild things happen. And, wild things did happen. Let’s let the voice of the Jayhawks, Brian Hanni, take it away.

My goodness. What an ending to regulation.
Overtime was just as crazy. After the two teams traded touchdowns in the first overtime, Arkansas scored first in 2OT and converted the mandatory two-point conversion to go up 53-45.
The Jayhawks answered with a touchdown, but had to get the two-point conversion. Quarterback Jalon Daniels looked to be stopped short, but a flag extended the game.
WOOOOW! Arkansas stopped Kansas on the 2 point try to win the game… BUT the refs called Arkansas for targeting! It's being reviewed….. Insane! pic.twitter.com/lOyUZa2JwT

And, the Jayhawks would convert. That sent the game into the sudden-death, penalty-shootout style of dueling two-point conversion tries. the Razorbacks converted easily, meaning Kansas needed to convert to extend the game.
But, coach Lance Leipold dialed up a poor play, and Arkansas won, 55-53.

Oh no. That’s not good.
Of course, a ton of college football fans had to weigh on what is the best game of the bowl season so far.
College football fans loved the Arkansas-Kansas Game
First off, this tweet by college football personality Barrett Sallee is funny, given what happened in the game down the stretch.
Kansas was a nice story early in the season. Arkansas is showing why the SEC is so good though. Middle of the SEC >>>>>>> other conferences.

Oh no.
But, the tweets when Kansas started to mount the comeback were priceless. Here are some of the highlights.
whoever loses the Liberty Bowl between Kansas and Arkansas has to agree to the other state's pronunciation of "โansas" for the next 365 days

Penalty Arkansas- excessive celebration post game. Give Kansas another chance

I'm not sure if I was Kansas, if I would put the winning (losing) pass in the hands of a receiver instead of my qb that just set a #LibertyBowl record

Thank you, SEC, for finally putting the 6-6 Kansas Football Jayhawks in their place and ending their long reign of terror https://t.co/55ogUqWrvS

All in all, it was a Liberty Bowl to be remembered.
