Providence head coach Kim English was ejected on two technical fouls during Wednesday’s college basketball game against Xavier. If what he said happened is true, it was totally bogus.
The 36-year-old did not deserve to be thrown out.
English, in his second year with the Friars, has struggled to win as many college basketball games as a year ago and his team is likely going to miss out on the NCAA Tournament, again. It is not for a lack of fight. He made sure to get his money’s worth after getting T’d up for the second time this season— in the same game.
The Big East has yet to address what happened so we can only go off of what English had to say about the frustrating incident. His account paints a picture of an insecure referee who cannot handle criticism.
Brent Hampton issued a technical foul to English during the first half. The former supposedly told the latter to make sure that his assistant coaches were sitting down. Only one was standing up.
Meanwhile, the Musketeers had two assistant coaches who were standing up at the exact same time. English made Hampton aware of the double standard. That did not go over well.
Kim English received his first technical foul.
Xavier had a 15-point lead at halftime. Providence went on to win the second half but lost the game by nine. English did not get to watch the final 18, almost 19 minutes from the sideline.
He received his second technical foul with 18 minutes and 40 seconds remaining in the second half.
The officials missed a blatant travel call on the Musketeers. They knocked down a three-pointer.
English criticized the officials for the missed call with the words, “missed travel, made three.” He said it more than once so Hampton slapped him with a second technical foul. That led to the emphatic ejection.

"It's my first & second technical foul of the year for saying, 'They have two assistant coaches standing up' & for saying 'A missed travel led to a made three.'" @ABC6 #pcbb pic.twitter.com/C7STkNORaZ
Kim English immediately charged at Hampton to give him a piece of his mind. Assistant coaches had to pull him off of the court and walk him back into the locker room.
Providence HC Kim English was ejected from tonight’s game against Xavier. After he was tossed, he can clearly be seen calling the ref a “crazy son of a bitch.”

Tensions are high in Friartown. pic.twitter.com/SdPqoGTjNx
It appeared as though he said one of two things:
- “You crazy son of a b—-“
- “You racist son of a b—-“
The first of two quips is more likely. Either way, English definitely called Hampton a SOB!

Xavier took 24 free throws to Providence’s three after the ejection during the second half. Coincidence? Perhaps. Vendetta? Perhaps.
The Big East will review the incident at earliest convenience. Kim English could be punished further but if his account of what happened is the truth, that would be even more lame than the ejection.
