The New York Knicks shocked the NBA with a series upset over the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference Semifinals. It was an outcome many did not anticipate coming to fruition.

ESPN reporter Brian Windhorst was one of those skeptics, believing the Knicks would be unable to best the defending league champions in a seven-game set. Fans took a victory lap after the series clinching win.

“First off, I’m not giving this series to the Knicks,” Windhorst was heard saying after Game 4. “That’s not a commentary on the Knicks; that’s a commentary on the Celtics. They were 8-2 this year when Jayson Tatum didn’t play. They are loaded on the top end with their talent on the roster. They, theoretically, could get Game 7 at home if they win the next two games… I believe they will rally back from this.”

Those comments came after seeing star guard Jayson Tatum go down with an Achilles injury. Boston would show up in a 127-102 win to get the series to 3-2, but New York prevailed in Game 6.

Knicks fans pelted Brian Windhorst with trash after clinching the series.

Video of Windhorst being harassed by a fan with a phone in his face surfaced soon after the decisive victory. He was confronted by someone outside of Madison Square Garden on his walk back to the hotel.

Ironically, moments before that interaction, he was heard commenting on his trek back home before leaving the venue. “Thanks to our producers, who came here to The Garden tonight, and are going out into humanity,” he said before signing off from his broadcast. “I’m just walking back to the hotel. I’ll be fine.”

It seems Windhorst knew he’d be approached with negativity by Knicks fans given his prior prediction on the series. New video showed a full view of the scene in New York.

The ESPN reporter had trash thrown at him as he exited the arena. In his defense, he handled the situation with grace.

It was not the only incident to make headlines after the series win. Other clips of Knicks fans throwing trash at a man in an Indiana Pacers jersey also surfaced after the team’s advancement. New York will now face the Pacers in the Eastern Conference Finals.

That fan was gifted tickets to the upcoming playoff series by Indiana guard Tyrese Haliburton. He’ll be on hand for a Game 4 matchup in Indianapolis.

Brian Windhorst should also be in the building when Game 4 rolls around. We’ll see if he further riles Knicks fans up with his next series prediction.
