Tiger Woods spoke to the media on Tuesday at Royal Portrush ahead of this week’s British Open. Woods covered numerous topics such as how he plans to use last year’s experience to better his result in 2019, how he feels about this year’s course, where his game is enterting the year’s final major, on whether he has partaken in a little Guinness since his arrival in Northern Ireland, and a pretty hilarious story about how Brooks Koepka basically ghosted him when he texted, asking the 2019 U.S. Open champion to join him for a practice round ahead of The Open Championship.
When asked if he had received any tips from anyone from the area, such as Koepka’s caddie Ricky Elliott who’s from Portrush, Woods replied, “No, I have not.”
“Tell you a funny story. I texted Brooksie, congratulations on another great finish. What he’s done in the last four major championships has been just unbelievable. To be so consistent, so solid,” Woods shared. “He’s been in contention to win each and every major championship. And I said, ‘Hey, dude, do you mind if I tag along and play a practice round?’ I’ve heard nothing.”

Later, when Koepka was asked to give an explanation for why he plays his best at majors, Koepka went almost full Iverson.
“I just practice before the majors,” Koepka said on Tuesday. “Regular tournaments, I don’t practice. When you see me on TV, that’s when I play golf.”

Oh yeah, as far as whether Tiger has had himself a pint or two of Guinness since his arrival in the U.K., he said, “This week? No, not this week. In the past? … Mmm-hmm.”
