Krypto’s role in James Gunn’s Superman has led to a massive spike in interest in dog adoptions. According to data from Google Trends, the search term “adopt a dog near me” spiked by over 500% following the release of Superman on July 11.

In the film, Krypto — who Superman says he’s “fostering” — has a pretty sizable role in the film, as he’s featured in a handful of action scenes, is used for multiple comedic bits, and also functions as a MacGuffin (a plot device that drive the story forward) at a certain point.

Clearly, comic book fans and dog lovers alike enjoyed the way Krypto was portrayed given the huge spike in interest in dog adoptions.

“Google searches for ‘adopt a dog near me’ jumped by +513% after the premiere weekend, and ‘rescue dog adoption near me’ rose by +163%. Searches for “adopt a puppy” also increased by +31%,” reported the dog training app Woofz.

“Moreover, searches for ‘adopt a schnauzer’ are up +299%, as Krypto appears to be a mix between a terrier mutt and a Schnauzer.”

Superman, which grossed $217 million at the global box office in its opening weekend, is now playing in theaters.

The film stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luhtor, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Wendell Pierce as Perry White, and Frank Grillo as Rick Grillo Sr.
