San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan threw a brutal jab at the Dallas Cowboys while discussing his preparation for the NFC Divisional game

While speaking to reporters about his team’s upcoming divisional round game against the San Francisco 49ers, Shanahan said he began preparing to take on the Green Bay Packers during the second quarter of their Wild Card weekend win over the Cowboys.

“We were already in here so we were doing it [preparing] that day, we had mixed in [Packers tape] a little bit earlier in the week… started really focusing on them halfway through the second quarter,” Shanahan said while cracking a grin.

“Then they [the Cowboys] scored at the end of the second quarter so I kind of did both at halftime. Then third quarter I was set on [the Packers],” Shanahan continued.

At halftime, Dallas was trailing Green Bay by 20 points despite being favored to win by a touchdown. By the time it was all said and done, the NFC’s #2 seed lost 48-32, making them the first #2 seed to lose to a 7th seed since the slot was added in 2020.

The loss to the Packers makes the 2023-24 season another lost one for the Cowboys as their solid postseason success (12 wins for the third-straight season) amounted to nothing in the playoffs.

Head coach Mike McCarthy’s contract only has one more year left on it, which means that doubts over his future will persist until they either fire him or give him an extension.

“I haven’t thought one second about it. My whole thought process was getting ready for a playoff game here next week. I am amazed to be sitting where we are right now,” owner and general manager Jerry Jones told reporters after the game.

Prescott will also be scrutinized in the coming months as his two first-half interceptions, one in their own Red Zone and the other being a pick-six, ultimately buried the Cowboys.
