It’s been a big week for LeBron James news. We’ve heard about the power dynamics between him and the Lakers. We learned that he actually wanted the Lakers to trade Russell Westbrook for John Wall at the trade deadline. Somewhere in there LeBron didn’t shut down the possibility of a return to the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Some sports analysts have even developed the opinion that the Lakers should trade LeBron this offseason. All of this has led to plenty of speculation about how LeBron’s future will play out, but it seems he already has a plan.
According to Shams Charania, Lebron James plans on sticking with the Lakers for the foreseeable future.

This is great news for the Lakers as LeBron is really their only hope of competing any time in the foreseeable future. They mortgaged their future to compete right now and it isn’t working, but if LeBron leaves then they’ll have to go into a full rebuild with whatever they can get in return for Russell Westbrook and Anthony Davis.
LeBron wanting to stick around at least gives the Lakers hope, but they’ll need to give a reason to stay between now and the NBA offseason. If they make another early exit from the playoffs, he could start to rethink things with how few options the team has to get him help next year.
The Lakers just need to make sure they don’t do anything that changes LeBron’s mind between now and the end of the NBA offseason and they’ll have to hope they make it deep enough into the playoffs to convince him that they can still build a contender around him.
