Try as Kobe martyrs may, the LeBron era in Los Angeles has begun and with it comes some new threads. The Lakers have unveiled their new “Icon” uniforms for the 2018-19 season and they are heavily inspired by the Magic and Kareem-led Showtime Lakers of the 80s sprinkled with a pinch of the Kobe/Shaq era of the late 90s/early 2000s. The new uniforms are part of the league’s eight-year merchandise deal that is reportedly worth $1 billion.
As a Celtics fan, it pains be to say that these are fresher than farm-to-table.

The biggest amendment on the uniforms come with the purple jersey, which has been changed from yellow to black.

The Lakers described their new jerseys on the NBA site:
Unveiled for the 2018-19 season, the new Los Angeles Lakers uniforms bring back an element of the 1980s Showtime Era — updated numbers, which use a vertical drop shadow — along with a rounded neckline. The font effect references the Lakers’ storied past, while also positioning a fresh direction for the franchise.
