Early this morning it was revealed that the new Miami Marlins ownership headed by Derek Jeter had traded away their best player, NL MVP Giancarlo Stanton for a shit ton of prospects.

Second baseman Starlin Castro and two prospects will head to the Marlins from the Yankees, who will be responsible for all but $30 million of the $295 million remaining on Stanton’s contract.
MLB Network Insider Joel Sherman reported on Saturday afternoon that the prospects involved in the deal are right-hander Jorge Guzman and shortstop Jose Devers, the 18-year-old cousin of Red Sox phenom Rafael Devers. Guzman is ranked as the No. 9 prospect in New York’s system, according to MLBPipeline.com; Devers is unranked. The 27-year-old Castro, who was an AL All-Star this past season, has two years and approximately $23.7 million remaining on his contract.
Marlins fans, who have already been annoyed with the way Jeter has conducted himself this offseason, were fucking pissed at the former Yankees shortstop for trading their biggest star to his old team.
Baseball teaming up with Jeter to give him a baseball team – and Jeter turning around and trading the MVP to his old team while screwing South Florida — feels like Wall Street fraud

What Derek Jeter and company have done with the @Marlins is a disgrace and bad for the sport. Why on earth would @MLB accept a bid from an ownership group that was going to immediately have a fire sale. What a joke.

A quick recap: Jeter bought the Marlins using mostly other people’s money, completely gutted them, pushed out a bunch of longtime employees, and traded their once-in-a-Generation player to the Yankees.

While Marlins fans are justifiably angry at the New Marlins ownership for the trade it seems like Jeter and crew had their hands tied with Stanton which made it tougher for them to get anything great in return. We’ll see how long Marlins fans can put up with Jeter and the new ownership before things get really toxic.
