Michael Block, a club pro from the Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club in Mission Viejo, California, had the entire world of golf captivated during the PGA Championship. Block’s story was a real-life Tin Cup moment.

It all culminated when Michael Block, paired with Rory McIlroy in the final round, had a hole-in-one on the 15th hole followed by the most spectacular up-and-down to save par on 18th.

Michael Block finished tied for 15th and automatically qualified for the 2024 PGA Championship. He then got a call offering a sponsor’s exemption to the Charles Schwab Challenge in Dallas this week. And THE Michael Jordan even texted him.

After all that, Michael Block joined Bob Menery on the Ripper Magoo podcast to discuss the whirlwind past few days. Bob Menery asked him Michael Block about playing with Rory McIlroy. Block went on to claim that the only thing separating him from being World #1 is Rory’s distance:

To hear Michael Block talk about getting a text from Michael Jordan is wild. A contact at Nike reached out to him and was like ‘hey, buddy, you should probably respond to Michael Jordan’s text…’ and at that moment he realized he got a text from the GOAT:

Block’s Instagram following has exploded in the past few days to over 229,000 followers. He’s playing on the PGA Tour this week. Life is GOOD for the guy from Southern California.

After all that’s happened, including winning $288K at the PGA, Block says he’d never want to leave his Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club in Mission Viejo. He says he does not want to be a Tour Pro and enjoys his life too much at home.

That said, it sure seems like we’ll see more of Michael Block on the PGA Tour and in high-profile golf events in the future.
