The Minnesota High School Hockey Tournament is one of the rowdiest events in sports. It looked a little bit different this year without a packed house of 20,000 fans jammed into the Xcel Center in St. Paul, but it didn’t stop the best teams in the state from competing for a chance at glory. Minnesota is the hockey mecca of the United States and “The Tournament” is a huge deal and everybody comes out to support their local high school— we’re talking brothers, sisters, parents, grandparents, friends, neighbors… all the way down to Barbara, the bagger at the grocery store. Men’s or women’s, it doesn’t matter. If your team is playing, you’re there.
In addition to the energetic atmosphere and high-level hockey, The Tournament is a showcase for some of the best (loose definition) haircuts in the game. Players go all-out with mullets, dye jobs, racing stripes, afros, and free-hanging lettuce out of the back of their buckets. The year’s All-Hair Team is named at the end of the week and the results never disappoint. This season presented unique challenges, as the players wore masks and there were no on-ice camera men for the intros, but Game On! Minnesota did the lord’s work anyway. He put together a nearly 10 minute compilation of the best lettuce, with cameos from some pretty prominent hockey personalities. And as always, he crowned a top 10. The year’s top haircut is astonishing.
Some of my personal favorites include:
The classic bleached mohawk.

You’ll have to watch the video to see the rest of the top cuts, but you won’t be disappointed that you did. As always, the video also does a great job of raising awareness and funds for the Hendrickson Foundation in Minnesota. It helps to make hockey accessible to ALL people, and you can learn more about what the Foundation does on its website.
Here is a taste of what player intros look like without COVID-19:
It’s a magnificent display for Minnesota hockey and the games themselves did not disappoint.

Did Game On! get it right? What’s your favorite salad of The Tourney?
