The Classic Teams Added To ‘NBA 2K20′ Are Badass Squads Like Clippers’ ‘Lob City’ And The 2016 Cavs

NBA 2K20 is one of the best sports games released each year, giving hoops fans a real-life experience while picking up the sticks and shooting some digital hoops. Previous versions of the franchise have been pretty badass, but this year’s version is pretty groundbreaking thanks to features like WNBA teams being added, which is a nice touch by 2K to help grow the league for younger girls.

For all the gamers out there who can’t wait for NBA 2K20 to hit shelves — which is September 6th, by the way — the franchise released some other awesome news recently, revealing the six classic teams that will be available to play with in this year’s game; which, honestly, aren’t really that classic, because they’re squads that a lot of us probably remember watching on TV. Take a look below at who NBA 2K20 added.

2002-03 Phoenix Suns

One of the more entertaining teams in the NBA during their time together, the 2002-03 Suns didn’t yet feature two-time league MVP Steve Nash, but they did have All-Star Stephon Marbury running the show, which, when coupled with Shawn Marion and Rookie of the Year Amar’e Stoudemire, were explosive an offense.

2006-07 Washington Wizards

This team, unfortunately, couldn’t get past LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavs, but that doesn’t mean they lacked talent. With a trio of stars the included the likes of Gilbert Arenas, Caron Butler and Antawn Jamison — all of which averaged more than 19 points per game — the 2006-07 Wizards had plenty of options when it came to running up the score.

2009-10 Portland Trail Blazers

Before Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum were leading the Blazers, the team had a couple other young stars leading them to the playoffs. While guys like Brandon Roy and LaMarcus Aldridge didn’t reach the success of the current crop of players in Rose City — being bounced in the first round of the 2010 NBA Playoffs — they did have lots of talent that should be fun AF to play with in NBA 2K20.

2013-14 San Antonio Spurs

This is where NBA 2K20 really outdid themselves with the classic teams this year, because the 2013-14 Spurs were loaded, and one of the best teams in NBA history. After losing the NBA Finals to the Big 3 and the Miami Heat the year prior, the Spurs returned the likes of Kawhi Leonard, Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili​ and Tony Parker, who all played major roles in avenging the loss to capture the franchise’s fifth title in 2014 — which, ultimately, led to a power shift in the league as LeBron James left South Beach that summer.

2013-14 Los Angeles Clippers

The Clippers never won a title with Chris Paul, Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan leading the “Lob City” era, but that doesn’t mean they weren’t one of the most fun teams of the past decade to watch. Add in lethal shooters like J.J. Redick and Sixth Man of the Year award winner Jamal Crawford, it’s actually shocking this team never even reached an NBA Finals together. Although they got bounced in the second round in 2014, NBA 2K20 pays homage to the entertaining team this year.

2015-16 Cleveland Cavaliers

Historic. That’s the only way to describe the 2015-16 Cavs, who overcame a 3-1 NBA Finals deficit to win the franchise’s first ever title, ending a championship drought for the city of Cleveland in dramatic fashion. From LeBron James and Kyrie Irving leading the scoring, to Kevin Love, J.R. Smith and Tristan Thompson doing the dirty work, this team didn’t have an ounce of quit in them, and it’ll be fun to run it back with them in NBA 2K20.

This is an awesome touch by NBA 2K20, and gives a younger generation a chance to play with teams that were entertaining to watch when they played together, as well as teams that, outside of the 2015-16 Cavs, didn’t quite reach their full potential by winning a championship. The video game gives gamers a chance at redemption.
