Things have gone from bad to worse for the New York Jets in recent weeks, as the team has lost five straight games, dropping their record to 4-8 and effectively ending their already-dead season.
Making matters worse for the franchise and its fans is that the team is currently playing miserable offensive football, as Nathaniel Hackett’s unit has scored just ten touchdowns this season.
Things are so bad for the Jets, in fact, that the unit is statistically worse off in virtually every major offensive coordinator than they were in 2020, the team’s final season under Adam Case who is considered one of the worst head coaches in recent NFL history.

But hold on, because things get more dire: not only are the Jets currently worse than the 2020 version of themselves, but they have the worst offensive EPA of the 766 teams that have been charted for the stat since the year 2000.
TruMedia's database goes back to 2000. There are 766 teams listed.

Here is what offensive EPA means, according to ESPN:
Based on statistical analysis of 10 years of NFL play-by-play data, ESPN has created a formula that assigns an “expected points” value to the team with the ball at the start of each play based on the game situation. Expected points (EP) accounts for factors such as down, distance to go, field position, home-field advantage and time remaining.
In other words, as far as the advanced analytics are considered, the Jets not only stink but are historically incompetent.
While former starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers was previously cultivating attention for himself by suggesting he could return to the field for Gang Green this season, that no longer appears to be the case following the Jets latest loss.
With five games left to play in a 2023 season that will surely end with the Jets missing the playoffs for a league-worst 13th straight year, New York still has matchups against the Houston Texans, Miami Dolphins, Washington Commanders, Cleveland Browns, and New England Patriots.
