I think it’s fair to say the Dallas Cowboys are back. The Cowboys are 5-1 on the season with their only loss coming in Week 1 against the reigning Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Dallas is playing in what is arguable the weakest division in the NFL (definitely the NFC) and they should run away with the division.
On Tuesday, it was reported that Dallas Cowboys starting safety Damontae Kazee was arrested and charged with DWI. He reportedly failed to use a turn signal when changing lanes and was pulled over. Damontae then admitted to the arresting officer that he’d been at a party where he “consumed three shots of liquor over the past several hours”, according to TMZ.
The Cowboys have been competitive in recent years when Dak and Zeke stay healthy but now that starting players are getting arrested again, I think it’s officially time to say Dem Boyz are back.
For some context to that, Cowboys legend Michael Irvin was arrested in 1996, 1998, 2001, and 2005. Greg Hardy and Joseph Randle were arrested in 2014. Former offensive lineman Nate Newton was arrested in 2001 with a whopping 213 pounds of marijuana in his car and then arrested five weeks later with 175 pounds of marijuana.
The list of high-profile arrests of Dallas Cowboys players isn’t longer than any other team but the Cowboys have always had a bigger spotlight on their team than others and with that comes media attention. And when Damontae Kazee was arrested and charged with DWI on Tuesday, NFL fans were quick to react on social media with the ‘Cowboys Are Back’ jokes.
Been needing a cowboy to get arrested. Makes me feel like I’m back in the 90’s. pic.twitter.com/uKkTk9mdVI

Between the years 2000 and 2014, the NFL team with the most player arrests was the Minnesota Vikings with 47 arrests followed by the Denver Broncos with 45 and Cincinnati Bengals with 43. The Texans had the fewest with just 11 arrests followed by the Rams with 12.
The Dallas Cowboys recorded just 16 arrests amongst players in those years which is waaaaayyyyyyyy below the league average for that span. But the media spotlight shines brighter on The Cowboys than other teams and longtime NFL fans have trouble separating the arrests from the successful 90s-era Cowboys with the modern team.
