Nobody at the Olympics is having more fun than the surfing duo from Germany. Neither Tim Elter nor Camilla Kemp left with a medal but they will not soon forget the memories made in Tahiti and Paris!
The second half of this summer’s Games is, essentially, a vacation.
Tim Elter is from Spain. Camilla Kemp is from Portugal. They both chose represent their parents’ country on the biggest stage in sports.
Team Germany arrived to Tahiti at the beginning of July for training. Although there is a pretty large surfing scene in France, the swells are not up to standard at this time of the year so the Olympics outsourced its competition to French Polynesia.
In lieu of the traditional Olympic Village, most of the surfers stayed together on a cruise ship in the middle of the South Pacific Ocean. They had a pretty sweet setup compared to the cardboard beds and lack of air conditioning back in Paris!
As if their living conditions were not cool enough, Elter and Kemp would not stop wreaking havoc on other countries by forcing them to party while on board. The German representatives definitely had the most fun of anyone in Tahiti, even though they left without a medal.
That is still true today.
Kemp and Elter were shipped over to France for the remainder of the Games after their respective losses.
They don’t seem to mind and picked up right where they left off.
Vibes were extremely high upon arrival.
Elter made sure the German fans are also in on the fun.
He also got the media involved by flipping the camera back on reporters during a press conference… Quite literally!
When not working extremely hard to spread joy wherever they go, the German surfing team is living lavishly.
They spent their Saturday trying to find the best croissant in Paris.
Elter spent his Sunday in the shadow of the Eiffel Tower.
And, as could be expected, he even got the Uber driver to turn up with him!
As if the energy in Paris wasn’t high enough, Team New Zealand flew into the Olympic Village on Monday after losing in Tahiti. The Kiwis and the Deutsche were an unstoppable force on the cruise ship.
France doesn’t know what hit them. The Olympics Closing Ceremony is not until this coming Sunday and the surfers who made the trip over to Paris have nothing to do until then. They are not going to stop the party!
