As the dominoes continue to fall in the NFL’s quarterback market, it has seemingly become more likely that one quarterback in particular could find a new home. The quarterback in question is Deshaun Watson, whose name popped up quite a bit today with the other top tier options no longer available.

However, according to Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post Gazette, the Pittsburgh Steelers are not on of the teams interested in acquiring Watson.

It may be a bit surprising to hear as the Steelers currently have Mason Rudolph at the top of their depth chart. However, there is one good reason to believe that the Steelers don’t have any interest in Deshaun Watson right now.

That reason is Malik Willis. The Pittsburgh Steelers becoming enamored with Willis at the Senior Bowl is no secret. That infatuation likely only grew at the NFL Combine.

At the combine, Willis scored a 32 on the Wonderlic test and then showed off a huge arm. His act of kindness off the field will also only help his draft stock as a high-character guy.

As weird as it may seem for an unproven rookie to be a safer bet than a top-tier veteran, that might be the case with Willis and Watson. Watson has off-field issues that make any move for him right now very risky. The Steelers at least know Willis will be available from the day they draft him.

Deshaun Watson will likely end up somewhere, with teams like the Carolina Panthers and Seattle Seahawks both reportedly interested in his services, but it appears that the Pittsburgh Steelers can be confidently crossed off as a potential landing spot.
