Just when you think you’re starting to get your body into ‘Summer Shape’ and feeling good about yourself, a video like this comes along and reminds you that there are individuals among us capable of achieving unimaginable feats. This hiker on the Pacific Crest Trail set out to attempt the 24x24x24x24 Challenge: eat 24 McDonald’s burgers, drink 24 beers, hike 24 miles, and do it all within 24 hours.
Simply hiking 24 miles on the Pacific Crest Trail would prove too tall a task for most people. That is barely 2 miles shy of a marathon in one day and the Pacific Crest Trail is known for its elevation changes. The trail runs from the Mexican border with California on up to British Columbia in Canada, 2,653 miles long with elevation changes from 110 feet above sea level on up to 13,153 feet with a total elevation gain of 489,000 feet across the trail.
It isn’t clear exactly where on the Pacific Crest Trail that Jordan Keldsen broke off the 24-mile challenge but we know it is somewhere on the trail, and he gives it his best try.
@jordankeldsen Video of my attempted 24x24x24x24 pacific crest trail challenge we made up😂 don’t try this! #24beers #24cheeseburgers #24miles #24hours #pct #fyp #pacificcrestrail
He began the challenge at 9pm with 2 burgers and 2 beers in the first 25 minutes. He would drink another 2 beers before going to sleep and waking at 6am the next day where he would need to eat 22 burgers and drink 20 beers before 9pm that night. Ultimately, he fell short of his goal because he couldn’t put down enough McDonald’s cheeseburgers. His final tally was 24 beers, 15 cheeseburgers, 24 miles, 5,340ft of elevation gain, all in 24 hours. A respectable 24 hours by any standards.
This is all reminiscent of the guy in Wisconsin I wrote about earlier this month who completed a ‘Culver’s Marathon‘ where he ran around, from Culver’s location to location, for 26.2 miles eating nothing but deep-fried Culver’s cheese curds and their concrete mixers.
That dude above from Far Fetched Fitness is quickly becoming one of my favorite follows on the Internet. For Memorial Day, he ran an ultra-marathon on a 500-foot strip of sidewalk in front of a Menard’s. Absolute insanity.
