Don’t go in the water. It look appealing but the soothing surface belies the sure death hidden underneath.

A paddleboarder in New Zealand found this truth out the hard way when a killer whale blew up his spot.

Lukas Reilly was paddling off Kuaotunu Beach, minding his own business when he caught a glimpse of the orca more than 200 metres away.

Reilly says the nosy orca swam out of its way to come and check him out.

“It rolled around on its side having a good look and he had a chew on my board,” he said.

He says there wasn’t a moment where he felt the orca was going to hurt him, describing it as a “friendly encounter”.

Whoa. We have a badass here.

If I were in a similar situation, there would have been much more thrashing and, eventually, a messy death.
