Just one week after introducing himself to the world, Gritty, the new face of the Philadelphia Flyers, is a bonafide superstar. In the biz, we call Gritty a five-tool player. He’s like a Sesame Street character who made a couple crucial mistakes in life and now sells drugs to middle schoolers at recess. Gritty already has 106,000 Twitter followers, has made an appearance on Jimmy Fallon, and has inspired some Philadelphia residents to carry him with them to the grave.
A Flyers fan named Jim Lardani recently started what is sure to become a trend in Philly when he got Gritty’s face inked on his calf.
Lardani admitted to being horrified by the Flyers new mascot at first, but like the rest of us, was put under Gritty’s spell. Via Billy Penn:
At first, “I was disgusted. I was like, what the hell is this? Why did you do this? Why is this a thing?
“It was like an hour after that I fell in love with him. I realized he’s Kensington as hell. Like, I’ve seen this guy at the Wawa on Columbus Boulevard.”
Lardani claimed that he and a friend scrolled through photos of Gritty to find the most insane portrait out there ink on his leg for the rest of time. They chose “the one that looked most psychotic… We went with the psycho, stare-into-your-soul face.”
Welp, it looks like the copy cats are out. Let the flood gates open.
Long live the king.
Interesting… it appears that @GrittyNHL now has personal bodyguards following him around. 🤔 pic.twitter.com/1XLj2e6i0r
