The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns took out powerhouse Texas in postseason play, ending the Longhorns’ season with a decisive Regional win. The highlight of that contest came when slugger Jose Torres put an exclamation point on the win with a moonshot home run.
Entering the eighth inning of play, the game was tight. Torres did his part to blow the college baseball contest wide open.
After trading runs in the second, the Ragin’ Cajuns took a 2-1 lead in the top half of the third frame. From there, both teams were held scoreless across their next four at-bats.
Then, Louisiana got the fireworks going with a monster eighth inning.
UL scored seven runs in that frame, turning a 2-1 lead into a 9-1 shellacking. A large portion of that damage came off the bat of Jose Torres.
With a pair of runners on, Torres stepped up to the dish. He turned on a hanging breaking ball from Texas righty Charlie Hurley and deposited it swiftly into the left field bleachers.

Not only did Torres absolutely pummel the baseball, but he then celebrated with one of the coldest bat flips you’ll ever see!
That three-run blast hit the scoreboard at Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park, giving the Ragin’ Cajuns a 6-1 lead. Louisiana would tack on another three-run bomb before the eighth inning ended to move their advantage to 9-1.
After trading runs in their next at-bats, UL left with a 10-2 blowout.
Louisiana kept its season alive while Texas was forced to go home. Jose Torres gave the Longhorns a send-off to remember!
