The Las Vegas Raiders have largely been a disappointment this season after failing to be as competitive as the fans had hoped for.
Even so, the team is still technically in the hunt for the playoffs. However, the coaching staff is going to go in a different direction at quarterback for the rest of the season.
According to Adam Schefter, the “Raiders are benching Carr and turning to Jarrett Stidham as their new starting quarterback.” It’s been a rough year for Derek Carr, as he’s leading the league in interceptions. He also looked abysmal against a bad Pittsburgh Steelers team in Week 16.

Carr has thrown a league-leading 14 interceptions— including three Saturday night during a 13-10 loss to the Steelers.

Jarrett Stidham has minimal experience in the NFL. Additionally, he’s making his first career start against the San Francisco 49ers, who arguably have the best defense in the league. With the Raiders technically still within reach of the playoffs, many are pondering the decision as a whole.
Even so, fans are now unsure about the future of this franchise. The Raiders gave Carr a nice-sized contract before the start of this season. However, between his dreadful play and getting benched, the fanbase speculates about what’s next in the offseason.
Makes it much easier to sign Aaron Rodgers or Tom Brady, I would think

This is just a weird way for the Raiders to end the season. Any and all speculation about the future of this franchise is valid. We’ll see how it plays out, but all signs are pointing toward Derek Carr playing for a new team in 2023.
