Jordan Spieth might be sick to his stomach after the RBC Heritage. The PGA star saw a crushing playoff defeat to Matt Fitzpatrick in Hilton Head as he just missed out on a tournament win.
Spieth had victory in his grasp before it was snatched away on the 16th green. Golf fans are now posting reactions to his heartbreaking finish on social media.
Spieth and Fitzpatrick went back and forth atop the Sunday leaderboard as they battled for the right to don the plaid jacket. When the final hole of the round was complete, the two were tied at -17.
A clutch putt from Spieth on the 18th hole would force a playoff.

He then had his opponent on the ropes as the two hit the green on that first playoff hole, with Spieth having the opportunity to win with a birdie putt.
But instead of celebration, he’d soon be met with pain.
The birdie putt appeared to be on track before somehow lipping out in brutal fashion.

Speith, himself, was in complete disbelief.

The miss was his first on a putt of 10 feet or less, but it wouldn’t be his last. It forced a second playoff hole, which unfortunately, would have a similar result.
Again, Spieth had the tournament for his taking, and again, his putt would come heartbreakingly close to dropping before ultimately staying outside the cup.
Spieth’s birdie attempt on the 17th hole was left short. It would be his last opportunity to win.
Matt Fitzpatrick took complete advantage of the misses, nearly holing his opening shot on the third and final playoff hole on his way to a win at Harbour Town.

Fans were quick to post their reactions to the crushing finish on social media.
One person wrote, “Jordan Spieth fumbled away his chance at back-to-back jackets.” He was the reigning champion entering this year’s RBC Heritage.
Another person commented, “I can’t believe he missed that putt,” referencing that brutal lip out on the first playoff hole.

With the playoff loss, Spieth’s winnings were cut by nearly $1.5 million. While he’ll still walk away with $2,180,000, his opponent landed a $3.6 million payday with the Heritage win.
It’s a dejecting loss for Jordan Spieth after having two opportunities to win it. Hopefully, he can flush it before entering his next event.
