We’re beginning to learn more about Robert Saleh’s abrupt firing in New York.
On Tuesday morning, the Jets shocked the NFL world when they announced they fired Saleh.
“This morning, I informed Robert Saleh that he will no longer serve as the Head Coach of the Jets,” Jets owner Woody Johnson said. “I thanked him for his hard work these past three-and-a-half years and wished him and his family well moving forward. This was not an easy decision, but we are not where we should be given our expectations, and I believe now is the best time for us to move in a different direction.”
According to Jets beat reporter Connor Hughes, Saleh was fired minutes after demoting Aaron Rodgers’ good friend Nathaniel Hackett, who was instrumental in recruiting Rodgers to the Jets.

SOURCES: Former #Jets HC Robert Saleh was never going to fire offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett. That was not happening.
However he was going to demote his game day responsibilities this week. Saleh made decision to give play-calling to Todd Downing because of the continued issues on offense.
He made that final decision Tuesday AM. Then, roughly five minutes later, he was called into Woody Johnson’s office and fired.
Based off of Jeff Ulbrich’s press conference, it sounds very much like he, too, is considering giving play calling to Downing.
Fans are convinced Rodgers saved Hackett and got Saleh fired.
