“There’s a lot of golf to be played!” America yells to itself while a bead of cold sweat drips down its collective back fat.
Friday, Team USA looked prime to defend its 2016 Ryder Cup domination, securing three of the four possible points in the morning fourballs. Then, things went down the shitter for the red, white, and blue. For the first time since 1989, the European Ryder Cup team swept the entire afternoon session 4-0, finishing the day with the Europeans up 5-3. The four European pairings in the afternoon played 60 holes and trailed for just six of them, capping off one of the most dominant sessions of golf in Ryder Cup history.

Yes, there is still a lot of golf to play, but historically the United States is climbing and uphill battle. The team to win more points in foursomes has won the Ryder Cup 6 of the last 7 times and Europe is defending a 25-year winning streak on home soil.
Fans, famous and otherwise, expressed their shock with the sudden turn of events during day 1 of the Ryder Cup.

You can’t win The Ryder Cup, if you lose more holes than you win

Phil Mickelson has now lost more matches in the Ryder Cup than any other American. Ever.
If he loses one more, he'll have lost more matches than any player on either side in the history of the match.
Try dancing your way out of that one…#RyderCup

Big setbacks set the stage for big comebacks. Time to sack up, USA.
