Scottie Scheffler is the best golfer in the world. He proved it once again at the British Open with a win at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland.
The success has led to Tiger Woods comparisons from fans and media. Scheffler weighed in on the debate after winning his latest tournament.
“I still think [the comparisons] are a bit silly,” he said after The Open Championship. “Tiger won, what, 15 majors? This is my fourth. I just got 1/4th of the way there.
“I think Tiger stands alone in the game of golf. He was inspirational for me growing up. He was a very, very talented guy. He was a special person to be able to be as good as he was at the game of golf.
“I don’t focus on that type of stuff. That’s not what motivates me.”

After winning his first major, it took Woods 1,197 days to get No. 4. The British Open was Scheffler’s fourth major victory. It’s been – you guessed it – 1,197 days since he won his first.

There are only two players to ever win The Open Championship while also being ranked as the world’s top golfer. Those players are Scottie Scheffler and Tiger Woods.

Scheffler’s stats are nearly identical to those of Woods during his dominant run at the turn of the century. He still has a way to go before matching Tiger’s impressive career totals.
Still, his performance warrants the comps, even if Scheffler calls them “silly.”
