The South Carolina football team picked up a season opening win over Virginia Tech in Atlanta. Walk-on linebacker Andrew Colasurdo might’ve gone a step too far in his victory lap.
The defender celebrated the outcome with a post on social media. His caption targeted an opposing player’s recent legal woes.
Caleb Woodson entered the season as a Butkus Award contender. The third-year player logged 72 tackles a year ago to go along with two sacks and an interception.
A week before the Hokies’ first game, he was arrested on a DWI charge. Head coach Brent Pry stripped him of his captaincy but allowed him to star in the opener as the legal process played out.
Woodson made six tackles. It wasn’t enough to lead his team to victory. An opposing player made sure he knew.
South Carolina football walk-on mocks Caleb Woodson.
Andrew Colasurdo is a linebacker that plays mostly on the special teams unit. His group made a huge impact in the first game with an 80-yard punt return score that allowed the Gamecocks to pull away.
After the game, the seldom-used defender posted a few photos from the action. His caption and song choice were Virginia Tech themed.
“Enter Sandman” by Metallica was used to play over the picture slideshow. That, of course, is the Hokies’ intro song during home football games.
That’s not the issue with the post. His caption is. It might’ve crossed the line.
“Can’t stay in my lane, call me Caleb Woodson,” the message read. It was an obvious reference to the linebacker’s recent arrest.
Woodson was also arrested in July for reckless driving after being clocked going 96 MPH in a 70 MPH zone.
It’s been a rough offseason for the Virginia Tech star. He now has two court dates set for September.
Woodson’s season started on a sour note, too, with the loss. Andrew Colasurdo chose to use his mishaps against him.
