- However, despite claims that money kept him from joining the Sun Devils, Rattler’s father says that is not true.

After news broke on Thursday that Jayden Daniels is set to enter the transfer portal, Arizona State does not have a viable starter at quarterback for 2022. Thus, the conversation shifted to the idea that the Sun Devils may have had a chance at Spencer Rattler.
Rattler, who left Oklahoma at the end of the regular season, is from Arizona. Transferring home for a one-year stop in Tempe might have made sense.
However, after Daniels and his mother spoke with head coach Herm Edwards, both parties chose to move on. Arizona State was moving forward with Daniels, under the impression that he was not entering the NFL Draft and staying with the program. Rattler went on to reunite with Shane Beamer at South Carolina.
As the Rattler discussion spread, ESPN’s Matt Barrie implied that Rattler’s decision came down to money.

He then went on to say that Rattler’s camp had too high of an asking price.
Rattler and his camp were asking for too much. ASU passed. Find me where I gave misinformation. I believe I said: Spencer Rattler will not attend ASU? Was I wrong?

In response, Rattler’s father Michael weighed-in and proceeded to eviscerate Barrie for his implication about NIL and money.
Matt you have been lying about this situation the whole time. The ASU coaching staff contacted us when they thought Jaden was going to declare for the draft. When Jaden changed his mind we advised them we were not interested. Simple as that! No need to manufacture drama!

Barrie stood by what he said but Michael claims that there was neither an offer from Arizona State nor a request by Rattler.
ASU did not offer anything and we did not ask for anything. When you imply otherwise it is being irresponsible!

In the new era of Name, Image and Likeness, money is often a large part of the conversation, whether directly or indirectly. However, there is no way to know whether Barrie was incorrect or if Rattler is lying.
