As things currently stand, it doesn’t seem like we’ll see Bill Belichick donning a headset when football season rolls around later this year, and while he’s been unable to land a new gig after parting ways with the Patriots, his son Steve will be has nabbed a pretty solid job.
The Falcons and the Commanders were both reportedly interested in hiring Bill Belichick after the legendary head coach saw his tenure with the New England Patriots come to an end after 24 seasons in January. However, every franchise with a vacancy opted to go in a different direction by the time all of those voids were officially filled.
Only time will tell what the future holds for the 71-year-old who doesn’t really have that much left to prove, and while no one would blame him for taking a well-earned retirement, it does feel like Belichick still wants to get the 27 regular season victories he needs to surpass Don Shula on the list of the winningest coaches in NFL history.
It was safe to assume there was going to be a shake-up in the Patriots coaching ranks after Jerod Mayo took the helm, and he’ll have at least one man to replace thanks to a development involving Steve Belichick.
Bill’s oldest son joined the Patriots organization in 2012 after graduating from Rutgers (where he played lacrosse and spent one season serving as a long snapper for the football team). He gradually worked his way up the ranks and spent the past few seasons serving as the outside linebackers coach in New England.
According to Field Yates, Steve will be getting a change of scenery next season, as he’s accepted the job as the defensive coordinator for the Washington Huskies under newly hired head coach Jedd Fisch.
Patriots OLB coach Steve Belichick has now accepted the position to become the University of Washington’s defensive coordinator.
After 12 seasons coaching in the NFL with the Patriots, he heads to the college ranks in a coordinator capacity.
Belichick called defensive plays…

That position was held by Chuck Morrell during Washington’s run to the national championship, and while he hasn’t officially taken a new job, most people expect him to join Kalen DeBoer at Alabama.
This is the first time Belichick will officially serve as a DC, although he’s been tasked with taking care of the defensive play-calling for the Patriots since the departure of Brian Flores. CBS News reports Mayo gave him the option to remain in New England, but it’s hard to blame him for wanting to branch out.
