Social media has made it easier than ever before for people around the world to shoot their shot— a fact that we’re reminded of whenever a famous person gets put on blast for sliding into someone’s DMs. However, plenty of celebrities are also on the receiving end of messages from thirsty fans— including those without a prom date and with nothing to lose.
Over the past few years, a number of people have caught the attention of the internet by using Twitter in an attempt to lure someone who’s totally out of their league to join them at an overhyped dance. In the end, most people are forced to settle for spooning with the cardboard cutout they have stashed in their the back of closest, but a few people have actually managed to close the deal— including one girl who recently scored a prom date with Oklahoma City Thunder center Steve Adams.
However, there is one small problem: they don’t actually have a prom to go to because it took him three years to respond to her invite.
In 2015, a Thunder fan named Lauren asked Adams if she would go to her law school’s prom (a thing that is apparently a thing) if she was able to get 1,000 retweets.
Hey @RealStevenAdams if I get 1,000 retweets will you go to my law school's prom with me?! #FunakiProm pic.twitter.com/0UTKmsAnsQ

She quickly managed to reach her goal, but she never received a reply from Adams until he replied to her tweet out of nowhere on Monday accepting her offer.
Absolutely

Lauren has graduated from law school since extending the initial invite, but she said she’s prepared to organize a “lawyers prom” if that’s what it takes to get a chance to make her dreams come true.
