As the Tennessee Titans headed into last year’s NFL offseason, it was abundantly clear that they needed to get Ryan Tannehill somebody to throw to besides AJ Brown. There answer was a trade for Julio Jones. It couldn’t have worked out much worse for them.
He appeared in just 10 of 17 regular season games for the Titans and made 31 catches for 434 yards in those games. He added 6 catches for 62 yards in their playoff loss the the Cincinnati Bengals. Then they proceeded to cut him this offseason.
It left them once again looking for another reliable option for Tannehill to throw to. They found that option today. According to Ian Rappoport, the Titans are trading for Los Angeles Rams receiver Robert Woods.

The Titans also managed to land him for a pretty reasonable price, only sending a 6th round pick back to LA.

Whether or not this was the right move for the Titans will come down to how well Woods recovers from his torn ACL. If Woods recovers well, then this should be a great move for the Titans. Woods is a high-level receiver who could certainly give the Titans the second 1000 yard receiver they’ve been looking for.
Even if Woods shows some effects from the injury, this is a pretty low-risk move. His cap hit this season is only $13.5 million, which isn’t too bad in the current receiver market. More importantly, he carries no dead cap if the Titans cut him at any point after the end of this season.
That means that for the price of a 6th round pick, they acquired a potential 1000 yard receiver who carries no potential consequences in the future if he doesn’t pan out.
That sounds like a win for the Titans.
