On New Year’s Day, more than a dozen people were tragically killed in the terror attack that unfolded in New Orleans when a man drove a truck through the packed crowd in the early hours of the morning. The victims included Tiger Bech, a former Princeton football player and the brother of a TCU wide receiver who’s revealed he died saving a woman he shoved out of the path of the vehicle.
I assume most people are aware of the horrifying scene that unfolded just a few hours after the start of 2025 when revelers celebrating on Bourbon Street were targeted by the man who drove a pickup truck down the famous stretch before he was shot and killed by the police officers who quickly engaged him in a firefight after he crashed.
14 people were killed in what the FBI swiftly labeled as a domestic terrorist attack, including Martin “Tiger” Bech, a 27-year-old who grew up in Lafayette, Louisana before heading to Princeton University, where he earned All-Ivy honors for his role as a punt returner on the football team while taking some snaps at wide receiver.
Bech was far from the only member of his family to have football coursing through their veins; two of his uncles played football at LSU and his younger brother Jack is currently a wide receiver at TCU.
Last week, Jack spoke with KLFY about his brother’s death, saying Tiger had met up with his best friend for dinner prior to heading to Bourbon Street before the attack unfolded. He added their parents were able to make it to the hospital to sit by his bed while he was on life support, and he was able to FaceTime him before he passed away.
On Wednesday, Jack referred to his brother as a “true hero” when he shared a screenshot of a text he presumably received from the friend Tiger was with on Bourbon Street, who told him the FBI had reviewed surveillance footage that showed him shoving a girl out of the way of the truck that fatally struck him in order to save her life.
My brother is a true hero. Can’t express the love I have for him. He’s an Angel🪽 pic.twitter.com/a2sp6hKMvS

A true hero indeed.
