Tiger Woods became the winner of the first-ever PGA Tour Player Impact Program bonus becoming $8 million richer on Wednesday. Phil Mickelson finished runner-up in the standings and Woods isn’t going to let him forget it.

On December 29, Mickelson claimed that he had won the PIP bonus. What Mickelson didn’t realize is that Woods’ appearance at the PNC Championship with his son Charlie in mid-December still had to be measured.

Mickelson kept the tweet up claiming he had won the bonus, so Woods decided to call him out on Twitter on Wednesday.

This is uncharacteristic behavior from Woods, he’s not active on Twitter at all. Usually, the only time we hear from Woods is through a prepared statement he shares on social media, but it’s clear he couldn’t help himself here.

News of the PIP bonus was revealed back in April of 2021 with a $40 million bonus pool being rewarded to golf’s biggest stars regardless of how they perform on the golf course. The money is awarded to the players who engage fans the most.

Woods won the PIP despite playing in just one tournament in all of 2021, and the tournament wasn’t even an official PGA Tour event.

Mickelson still received $6 million for finishing runner-up in the final PIP standings. It’s unknown if his recent comments calling the PGA Tour a “dictatorship” impacted his chances of taking home the top prize.
