Here we are, just days away from Tom Brady making his debut in Tampa Bay yet we’re still talking about his free agency. That’s because Dan Patrick dropped a major note during his show on Thursday regarding Brady and the three teams his decision ultimately came down to.
While we already knew that the Buccanneers and Chargers were in the mix, Patrick said that his source told him that the Bears were on the final list to land Brady.
“Did you know that the Bears were in the final list of teams for Tom Brady,” Patrick asked during his show. The final list that Brady was looking at, the Chargers, the Bears, and the Buccaneers. I was told this yesterday. I said, ‘Wait a minute. The Bears?’ [The source] told me yes.”
Seemingly every team in the NFL had a rumor swirling this offseason suggesting they would be the ideal landing spot for Brady, but we didn’t hear too much about the Bears. The Titans rumors picked up a lot of steam before he ultimately signed with the Bucs, but the Bears? No, this news from Patrick is brand new information to pretty much anyone that follows the NFL.
Chicago fans probably won’t like this latest report from Patrick. The Bears are now set to enter year-four of the Mitchell Trubisky experiment while a 43-year-old Brady is readying up with arguably the best offense he’s ever played with.
It would’ve been a rather easy transition for Brady going from the cold environment of Boston to the Windy City. The NFC North would have been mighty fun, too, with Aaron Rodgers, Kirk Cousins, Matthew Stafford, and Brady all slinging the rock.
Oh, what could have been, Chicago fans.
