Tom Brady’s 90 minute interview with Howard Stern initially was a masterclass in side-stepping tough questions.
But the greatest interviewer of our time eventually broke Brady down and got the legendary quarterback to reveal things about himself, his marriage, his career, and other guys’ penises.
You can listen to the entire interview here for free, or just read the notable highlights below.
On maintaining a winning mindset:
“We were down 28-3 against Atlanta in Super Bowl 51, and you could look at that situation and basically quit. You could say, ‘fuck it, we have no shot at winning.’ Or you could say, ‘This is going to be an amazing comeback. When we come back from this, this is going to be the defining moment in our life. Or the defining moment in our professional career.’
When you shift your mind to think that way, it becomes very empowering, as opposed to very discouraging.
So any time we’re down in a game, I think, ‘if we come back from this game, we’re the hero.’

On whether he or Belichick deserves more of the credit for the Patriots success:
“I think it’s a pretty shitty argument actually that people would say that because again, I can’t do his job and he can’t do mine. So the fact that you could say, would I be successful without him, I don’t believe I would have been. But I feel vice versa as well.”
…
“He has a lot of loyalty & we’ve had a lot of conversations that nobody has ever been privy to & nor should they be. So many wrong assumptions were made about our relationship, or about how he felt about me. I know genuinely how he feels about me. Now I’m not going to respond to every rumor or assumption that’s made other than what his responsibility as coach is to get the best player for the team, not only for the short term but for the long term as well.”
On the importance of legacy:
“I never cared about legacies. I could give a shit. … That’s not me, that’s not my personality. Why did I choose a different place? Because it was just time.”

On marriage difficulties with Gisele:
Brady claimed his first meeting with Gisele was at a wine bar in New York City: “I thought she was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen in my life,” he said.

Gisele wrote Brady a long letter where poured her heart out and he’s kept it to this day.
“I keep it in a drawer and I read it and it was a heartfelt letter that said this is where we are in our marriage.”
On his lack of trust in wide receivers:
"If you put him out there, I'm not going to throw him the ball…" – Tom Brady when asked by Howard Stern if there were times he went to Belichick and said 'get this guy off the field'.

Brady just told Howard Stern that he was expressive internally about his lack of trust with his WR’s—-I’ll go back to this moment being the one that opened that up externally for the public to see… https://t.co/kZvXCSkrj0

On penises:
"You get used to it. Every guy's penis looks the exact same. A man's a man." — Tom Brady to Howard Stern on seeing everyone's penis in the locker room.

We’ll agree to disagree on that point, bro.
