Three-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Tony Stewart is dealing with scary symptoms following a terrifying crash in Sunday’s NHRA Drag Racing event at Maple Grove Raceway in Mohnton, Pennsylvania.

Stewart, 54, recently claimed the regular season championship in NHRA’s Top Fuel division. But in the opening round of the series “Countdown to the Championship,” things went awry.

The polarizing superstar was competing in the second elimination round of the event against veteran Doug Kalitta. Both drivers completed their run with Kalitta claiming victory at 335 miles per hour. However, after the run, Kalitta’s car swerved across the center line and into Stewart.

The collision sent Stewart’s car flipping onto its side,  it then settled back down and slammed into the concrete wall.

Initially, it appeared that the drivers escaped the incident without major injury, as they both climbed from their vehicles. However, things took a turn for the worse for Stewart.

Tony Stewart Says He Has No Memory Of NHRA Drag Racing Crash

Stewart was able to give an interview after the incident. But what he told the Fox Sports 1 interviewer immediately made the incident far more concerning.

I don’t have a d— clue, honestly,” Stewart said when asked what happened. “I honestly don’t remember any of it. The first thing I remember, they’re waking me up here. Not sure what happened, but it appears to have been pretty massive. Looking at Doug’s car and my car, I’m glad PBRC builds our cars, because we have safe race cars, obviously. I’m as curious as everybody else as to what happened. I just know that we’re not where we’re supposed to be at the end of a run here. So, just confused.

“I got one hell of a headache and banged my left hand up. But I’ve been through sprint car crashes way worse than this, I’m pretty sure. We’re good. We’re good. We’re fine. I promise we’re fine.”

Stewart may say he’s fine. But the fact that he has no memory of the crash or what happened in the aftermath is extremely concerning. Hopefully, someone urged him to go see a doctor after the incident. It’s clear that, at least, he suffered some sort of concussion.

For Stewart’s sake, let’s hope that’s all it was.
