The NFL’s concussion protocol is going to be put to the test during today’s Titans-Chiefs game. Late in the second quarter Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce took a brutal helmet-to-helmet to hit. As Kelce tried to get up from the hit he began to stumble over and needed help from his teammates just to stand up straight.

Kelce was immediately sent to the locker room before half time so that he could get checked but there’s no question that he probably shouldn’t be allowed to return to the game.
If Travis Kelce somehow passes the concussion protocol, the NFL needs to blow up the entire system.

All season long the NFL has had issues with allowing players to come back to play in games in which they suffered scary head injuries. Things got so bad for the league that they ended up having to tweek the concussion protocol.

Several changes to the N.F.L.’s concussion safety protocol, including requiring the presence of an unaffiliated neurotrauma consultant at the league command center for all games, were revealed by league officials on Sunday.
The changes, backed by the N.F.L. and its players union, were agreed upon Dec. 11 by the league’s head, neck and spine committee. They went into effect the following weekend.
Update: Kelce has officially been ruled out for the rest of the game with a concussion,
