Two-time UFC Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez spent Monday night in jail after reportedly being involved in a shooting.

San Jose police arrested the former WWE star at around 3 p.m. near a local high school, according to TMZ.

NBC Bay Area reported that the circumstances or motive for the shooting have yet to be released by police, but confirmed that one man was shot and taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The 39-year-old Velasquez was charged with attempted murder and was booked into the Santa Clara County Jail.

There are rumors making the rounds on the internet that the shooting was some sort of road rage incident, but that has yet to be confirmed by law enforcement authorities.

As of Tuesday morning, TMZ reports, Velasquez was still being held in jail and has a court date set for Wednesday at noon.

Velasquez retired from mixed martial arts in 2019 with a 14-3 record after defeating the likes of Brock Lesnar, Antônio Silva, Junior dos Santos, Cheick Kongo, and Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira.

In his final fight, Velasquez was knocked out by Francis Ngannou just 26 seconds into the first round.

Last month, Velasquez’s coach Javier Mendez said the fighter was still capable of making a comeback, if he is willing.

“He’s got it if he wants it,” Mendez told MMA Junkie. “He’s got it. But I don’t know know if he wants to come back. I don’t speak with him about those things. But it’s possible. If someone says, ‘Hey, here’s $2 million, let’s go fight,’ he might say, ‘Eh give me $4 (million) and I’ll do it.’”

Mixed martial arts fans were stunned by the news of Cain Velasquez’s arrest. They also, of course, had jokes.
