Watch This UGA Signee Run The Fastest 100-Meter Dash Time In High School History

Remember the name Matthew Boling, because we’ll undoubtedly be watching him run at the Olympic level, maybe as early as next summer in Tokyo.

Boling, a senior at Strake Jesuit high school in Houston and a University of Georgia track & field signee, clocked in with the fastest 100-meter time under “all conditions” in high school history on Saturday. At 9.98 seconds, Boling became just the second sub-10 ever by a high school sprinter. The unfortunate thing about the record-setting sprint is that Boling was aided by a wind reading of 4.2 meters/second, which would make the attempt outside legal requirements, hence the “all conditions” qualifier.

For perspective, the previous record for a 100-meter sprint in any conditions was 9.9 seconds, set by Trayvon Bromell in 2013, in comparable wind conditions of plus-4.0. Bromwell finished 8th in the 100-meter dash at the 2016 Rio Olympics, with a time of 10.06.

Boling’s season consisted of the following 100-meter times: 10.28, 10.22, 10.21, 10.20, 10.43, 10.11, 10.39, 9.98.
