Last night, the UMBC Retrievers became the first 16 seed to beat a 1 seed in the history of the NCAA Tournament. As a 22.5 point underdog going into the game, UMBC also became the biggest upset in NCAA tourney history, a record previously held by Morfolk university.

Biggest upset in tournament history was in 2012 when Norfolk St beat Missouri as 21.5 point underdogs. Virginia was -22.5 against UMBC tonight.
Despite being the biggest underdogs in the history of the tournament, several people laid out some money on the Retrievers and earned themselves a big pay day.
Check out this insane parlay of two underdog teams a lucky bettor made.
Amazing. A bettor @WilliamHillUS hit a $40 two-team moneyline parlay on Marshall and UMBC. It paid $7,280.

One of the gamblers who put his money on UMBC had a pretty good reason to do so.
Scenes from Sin City: I watched @atomic_lock make this bet this afternoon. UMBC Moneyline at +2000. He's got a historic upset ticket in his hands! I'll be talking to him in a few minutes. @Covers pic.twitter.com/oF53tDDMRy

We’re in chatrooms with a bunch of guys who are sports handicappers. We go over plays every night,” McCulley told Covers while relaxing in a Venetian sportsbook booth late Friday night, shortly after the game ended. “When the bracket came out, we liked UMBC. We’ve been anti-Virginia winning the title since the beginning of the season, because of its style of basketball. It leaves no room for error. Virginia was going to have a rough time making it through the tournament.
On the other side of the coin, this poor bettor lost $20k trying to make $870 when he put all his money on the favorites.
