Vince Young is participating in the BMW Charity Pro-Am this week alongside a number of sports personalities in South Carolina. The former Texas and NFL QB is helping to raise money for a good cause in his downtime post-retirement.
While he’s been out of the league for some time, he’s still a high profile player given his national championship Longhorn career and his status as a first-round draft pick.
That popularity led one reporter to ask the passer a few questions about life after football, his golf game, and his reason for playing in the event. There was just one problem.
She had the wrong person!
The tournament aired on the Golf Channel, with an on-course contributor gaining insights from players on the links. Believing she’d successfully nabbed Vince Young for her conversation, the segment began.
That case of mistaken identity led to one of the most awkward interviews you’ll ever see. Check it out:
I’m dying laughing they thought they were talking to Vince Young, might be the most awkward interview I’ve ever seen pic.twitter.com/cjz0gYqg9D

The man being interviewed at the BMW Pro-Am is actually former Citadel football player and current Bulldog coach Everette Sands, who stands about 5′ 10″ according to his 1992 bio. A South Carolina native, he was a four-time All-Conference rusher in Charleston.
Though he doesn’t boast the pro career or notoriety of the 6′ 5″ Vince Young, his list of accolades is impressive in its own right!
Still, you can imagine viewers’ surprise to see Sands (decked out in Citadel gear) – not Young – on their TV screens when the segment started.
The interview becomes more cringey as time goes by. The reporter begins by laying out a foundation for her Vince Young related line of questioning only to have Sands politely correct her.
Making things more awkward, she continued to hold the mic near Sands’ face after he informed her of the mix-up, leading to a long moment of awkward pause.
Sands showed grace, continuing on with the interview. Still, it offered one of the more uncomfortable moments you’ll see in sports television.
Everette Sands responded after the BMW Pro-Am mix-up.
Had a great time at @BMWProAm today. I even got interviewed after one of the holes today!!!#TheGrindDontStop pic.twitter.com/8VMdC4lhfQ

Sands joked about the case of mistaken identity with a post on X before doing an interview with Charleston based news reporter Scott Eisberg.
The coach broke down the situation for listeners in hilarious fashion.
I haven’t laughed this hard in a while. On live national TV, a Golf Channel reporter thinks she’s interviewing Vince Young.
She’s in fact interviewing Citadel football great and assistant coach Everette Sands.
Had call Everette to see what was going through his head during… https://t.co/l1tmx0TJLK pic.twitter.com/Hdk9JgrcqZ— Scott Eisberg (@SEisbergWCIV) June 7, 2024
