Walker White committed to play for Hugh Freeze at Auburn as a four-star quarterback recruit in the Class of 2024. He spent only one college football season on the Plains before hitting the transfer portal.
The dual-threat signal-caller took a vicious parting shot at his former head coach after announcing his decision to play at Baylor on Saturday.
White, a native of Arkansas, was one of the fastest-rising prospects in the country last year. Auburn ultimately landed the 6-foot-3, 220-pound quarterback over Ole Miss and Clemson, among others. He was crowned as the eventual successor to Payton Thorne.
Hank Brown and Holden Geriner were also in the mix to replace the incumbent starter for 2025 but all three guys are now gone. Brown is off to Iowa. Geriner is in the transfer portal. White just committed to play for the Bears.
Things did not go according to plan for the Tigers in 2024. They floundered to 5-7 behind mostly terrible play from Thorne and Brown. White completed two of his five attempts during garbage time in Week 12. That was it.
Meanwhile, Freeze consistently threw his quarterbacks under the bus while refusing to take any responsibility. That led Bo Wallace to trash the former Ole Miss head coach for how he treats his players.
Fast forward to Saturday when Walker White committed to Baylor. In doing so, he took a vicious parting shot at Freeze while speaking with Pete Thamel of ESPN.
I can’t wait to meet my new teammates and get to work in Coach Spavital’s offense. I’m also excited that there’s a clear plan for quarterback development.
— Walker White
Read that second sentence again. White is excited to play for a team that has a clear plan for quarterback development, which Auburn clearly did not. Pew pew!
To be fair, the Tigers are in a good spot at the most important position in football. They added Jackson Arnold and Elijah Brown through the portal and four-star freshman Deuce Knight during the last month.
It will be very interesting to see if White’s jab at Hugh Freeze is still true at this time next year. History would show that nothing will change with how he develops quarterbacks but we shall see!
