If you have ever wondered what it would be like to drive an IndyCar around an oval at top speed, this new video of four-time champion Scott Dixon testing out the Verizon IndyCar Series’ new windscreen will get you pretty close.
Taking to the one-mile oval in Phoenix, Dixon runs several laps under the lights to see if his visibility is negatively affected in any way by the new apparatus.
IndyCar is leaning towards using the new cockpit protection device over the halo that Formula One will be introducing in 2018.

The halo has come under fire from multiple F1 drivers claiming that it effects both their vision as well as their equilibrium. Formula One driver Sebastian Vettel actually said the halo made him dizzy.
Meanwhile, as you will see in the video below shot directly from the perspective of Dixon’s visor, is definitely less obtrusive. Whether it will distort the driver’s view or cause a glare is what the testing is supposed to determine.
