The New York Yankees are one of the most historic sports franchises in the world. They’re almost always in the running for the World Series.
With that said, the club put in a strange request to the MLB regarding the jerseys their coaches wear.
According to The Athletic, the Yankees have a growing issue year in and year out when it comes to the numbers on their uniforms.
The reason being, they have so many jerseys retired that they’re running out of numbers. Apparently, New York requests to the MLB if they can stop giving numbers to the uniforms the coaches wear.
The New York Yankees are asking MLB if they can stop issuing jersey numbers to coaches — because they're running out of numbers for players, per @BrendanKutyNJ.

That’s quite the flex, right? No other team in baseball has this issue. It just goes to show you how many legends of the sport have played for New York over the years.
This makes me ponder a scenario where the MLB opts to deny the Yankees’ request. What happens then?
Let’s think about that for a minute. Maybe the league will start allowing teams to wear triple digits like in Futureama. Could they start making negative numbers a thing?
If sports teams stick with numbers 0-100, eventually, teams would run out of numbers to retire, right? I mean, it’s going to take a while, but it certainly can happen well into the future.
We’ll see how it plays out, but the Yankees coaching staff might have to lose their jersey numbers in the near future.
